Seychelles X Comoros X Mauritius X Saotome & Principe X Eswatini (Swaziland)
I have finally reached my goal of covering all 54 countries in Africa. At this time I have already migrated all of my previous episodes from my old station to I-heart Radio. I feel quite accomplished for starting this virtual journey, and finally finishing the continent of Africa. Each country has its own unique history and I am honored to learn as much as I did so far.
The King of "Eswatini" Mswati the 3rd, was one of the most interesting leaders I learned about in Africa. He has been been the King of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) since 1986. He has 15 wives, and is known for living lavishly. I first learned about his legacy after discovering his daughter as a musical artist at the time. The kingdom of Eswatini is one of the safest countries you can visit in Africa
I have been honored to interview the beautiful & stunning musician Miss Trophy, from the kingdom Eswatini. The kingdom is not really known for its music talent but one song from her caught my ear. I had to let her know how much I appreciated her unique sound and you can listen to her interview in my blog. Go to youtube and type in Miss. Trophy Angikagcoki
Comoros is a country next to Madagascar and Mauritius island. Very small and full of culture. It is a predominantly muslim and the only country in the Arab world in the southern hemisphere.
Saotome & Principe are 2 small islands located off the coast in the west of Africa. The language spoken is Portuguese. I am a huge fan of kizomba and koduro found in Angola and Mozambique and Saotome & Principe has it too. Unfortunately finding music in these islands were really difficult for me and I am sure there is musical treasure found in the country that I happened to not come across as of yet.
The Mauritius islands are one of my favorite islands musically and aesthetically. To the untrained ear it may sound as if there is Spanish influence to the music, but it is actually french influence. The sound is very unique and you can hear me playing it at one of my parties. Definitely a tourist goal for me to go visit and dj. Go to youtube and type in Sega music. Pronounced Seee-ga
The Seychelles island is located far off of the coast past Somalia. The music from this country has been pleasant to discover. I felt a big cultural difference in the sound and the feel of it. One of the top vacation spots for people who know about the countries existence. I love the music there.
To summarize how I feel about this episode I must say that I was very pleased of what I discovered. From the eventful sounds of Sega (pronounced seeega) of Laura Beg in the Mauritius island to the beautiful sounds of Miss Trophy from Eswatini. I loved playing each and every song. So please continue to watch the global rhythms podcast evolve. Stay tuned..
